Subfields of Psychology

  • Industrial/Organizational psychologists apply psychological principles to workplace issues such as workplace productivity, matching people to the right jobs, and improving communication between management and workers.
  • Experimental Psychology seeks to carry out tests under controlled conditions in order to discover an unknown effect that determines behavior or mental process. The areas of study where you are most likely to find an experimental psychologist include sensation and perception, cognitive, learning and memory, and neuroscience.
  • Social psychologists study social behaviors that include how people act differently in groups versus when they are on their own, and how relationships are formed.
