Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates is a third-party recruiting agency that has led more than 200 president/chancellor-level searches and has placed senior leaders, including vice presidents and vice chancellors, provosts and deans, at colleges and universities, small and large, public and private, in 46 states. This will be MSU Denver’s sixth search with the firm.


Alberto Pimentel, managing partner

Alberto PimentelAlberto Pimentel co-founded Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates in 2007 and has led and managed hundreds of executive-search assignments for a variety of public and private universities and colleges, nonprofit organizations and governmental agencies over the past 20 years. He has successfully recruited candidates for academic and administrative positions for university systems as well as individual campuses. 

Pimentel is managing partner of the firm’s West Coast practice. His experience includes conducting searches for chancellors, presidents, provosts, vice presidents, academic deans, executive directors and managers across all functional areas, and he is widely known for his work across multiple campuses in the University of California and California State systems. 

Before co-founding Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, Pimentel was a vice president in the education and nonprofit practices of A.T. Kearney Executive Search. Previously, he was a search consultant in the education practice of Witt, Kieffer, Ford, Hadelman & Lloyd and a principal in the Los Angeles office of Korn/Ferry International, working in that firm’s education and nonprofit practice. 

In his early career, Pimentel was a teacher, counselor, teacher advisor and program coordinator for the Los Angeles Unified School District. He holds a master’s degree in education from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education; a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government; a master of arts in education administration from Point Loma Nazarene University; and a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles. 

Pimentel is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Don Bosco Technical Institute and the California State University-Los Angeles ACCESS Center Advisory Board. He participates actively in many community organizations in the Los Angeles area.
