DENVER – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) announced today that Metropolitan State University of Denver has earned accreditation for its College of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
"AACSB congratulates MSU Denver and the faculty and staff of the College of Business for successfully completing a multiyear process to achieve accreditation," said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. "During this peer-review process, MSU Denver confirmed alignment with 21 global accreditation standards, while demonstrating a commitment to deliver high quality education to its students.”
Fewer than 5 percent of the world’s business programs have earned AACSB accreditation, which is a hallmark of excellence in business education. Today, there are 755 business schools in 51 countries and territories that maintain AACSB accreditation.
“This accomplishment demonstrates the maturation of MSU Denver as an institution and its ongoing commitment to offer relevant high-quality education opportunities for students,” said Ann Murphy, dean of the College of Business. “With more than 50 percent of AACSB institutions based outside of the U.S., this affiliation will enhance and grow education partnerships globally for our students and faculty.”
The College of Business anticipates corporate recruitment of its students will increase as a result of the AACSB accreditation. MSU Denver has been accredited since 1971 by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution is celebrating its 50th anniversary of transforming the lives of students while serving the needs of metro Denver communities.
Achieving accreditation entails a process of rigorous internal review, engagement with an AACSB assigned mentor and peer review. During the multi-year process, the institution focuses on developing and implementing a plan to align with AACSB’s accreditation standards. These standards require excellence in areas relating to strategic management and innovation; student, faculty and staff as active participants; learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.
"AACSB accreditation represents the highest achievement for an educational institution that awards business degrees. The entire MSU Denver team – including the administration, faculty, directors, staff and students – are to be commended for their role in earning accreditation, and for their commitment to ongoing improvement," continued Reid.
The College of Business is helping MSU Denver achieve its mission of providing high-quality, accessible and enriching education to a diverse student population to meet employer needs and prepare students for successful careers.
