Meet Sophia Tran, Ph. D.
2022 Presidential Faculty Fellow

Sophia Tran Ph.D.

Since 2016, I have been a full-time lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, focusing specifically on our General Chemistry Laboratories. I was born and raised in a suburb north of Seattle, WA and attend the University of Washington as a first-gen student and obtained my B.S. in chemistry. I stayed at UW to earn my Ph. D. in inorganic chemistry. In my spare time, I like to bake/cook, explore new restaurants, and go on walks.

I applied for the Presidential Faculty Fellowship because I’ve always wanted to take on a leadership role in academia. This seemed like a perfect chance for me to get a sneak peak of what it’s like in administration and to develop my leadership skills.

I’ve completed nearly four months of my fellowship! One of the most common questions I’ve gotten is, “Sophia, what are you doing in this fellowship?” Click here to read about what I’ve been doing during my time in the Office of the President!
