Orientation, Transition, and Retention (OTR)
The SOAR Experience
Sessions offered in the Summer months for students starting in the Fall Semester
The SOAR Experience is a day long all encompassing day-long orientation session for first time to college students. Session information includes Academic Advising and Course Registration, Financial Aid, Tips for Academic Success, Policies, Spirit and Traditions, and Opportunities for Involvement on campus. (Please see Family and Support Orientation as an additional session to The SOAR Experience.)
The sign up period for theses sessions begin in March and the session dates are May-Early August. New students coming from High School are required to attend one session.
Visit the Testing Center website to determine if you need accuplacer tests before signing up or a SOAR session!
***Registering for a SOAR Experience is a first-come, first-serve basis. This means that once a session is full, no one else will be able to register for that session and will need to find another one that is available. Please note that all students MUST pre-register for SOAR. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
Parent, Family and Guest Orientation
These sessions are only offered in the Summer months concurrent to The SOAR Experience for new students starting classes in the Fall.
Our program is designed to help family members support their students as they transition from high school to college. Session information includes Academic Support and Expectations, Campus Safety, Support Strategies for Family Members, Financial Aid, and a Campus Tour to connect with our campus and learn where our main offices are located. To sign up for a session, your student will have the chance to register you as a guest in their SOAR Experience registration. There is no limit to the number of guests who can attend. Please note that it is a full day program with breaks built into your day but your student will be going through their SOAR program. Each guest over the age of 5 will be charged $15.
