Our Diversity Initiatives and Grants
Diversifying the Field of Nutrition and Dietetics through Commitment and Action
The Department of Nutrition at MSU Denver is committed to promoting diversity in the field of nutrition and dietetics through various initiatives and grants. The Department of Nutrition values all aspects of diversity. Our commitment to diversity aligns with our Department's mission:
The mission of the Nutrition Department is to prepare diverse students for successful careers in food, nutrition and dietetics by providing quality education that is culturally sensitive and instills a desire for life-long learning.
In 2019-2020, the Department of Nutrition received two large student and diversity-focused grants:
- A $3.25 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that aims to financial support undergraduate students with low-income and/or first generation status
- And, a $2 million Post-baccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (POHA) grant from the U.S. Department of Education that focuses on encouraging students from diverse backgrounds and those with interest in serving diverse populations, to pursue post-baccalaureate study here at MSU Denver
