Rita and Navin Dimond donate $1.5 million to Hotel Management Program

MSU Denver President Stephen Jordan announced yesterday that Rita and Navin Dimond have committed $1.5 million to the Hospitality, Tourism and Events Department to support the Hotel Management Program and the Hospitality Learning Center (HLC). In recognition of this gift, MSU Denver’s Hotel Management Program will be named in the couple’s honor.

The Dimond family gift represents the largest personal contribution to MSU Denver to date.

Faculty, friends and students gathered to commemorate the naming of the Rita and Navin Dimond Hotel Management Program, and for the unveiling of a dedication wall in the HLC that honors the Dimonds for their financial contribution.

Following the unveiling, President Jordan hosted a cocktail reception and dinner at the new Renaissance Denver Downtown City Center Hotel. Guests and speakers included Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

“The values and the legacy of the Dimond family are rooted within the hospitality industry’s most respected,” said President Jordan. “Their support will help us provide transformational career training and educational opportunities for students. I can’t think of a better role model in the hospitality industry than Navin Dimond, whose personal and professional story speaks for itself.”

Dimond is president and CEO of Stonebridge Companies, widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading development and hospitality management companies.

A significant portion of the endowed gift will create the Dimond Fellowship Program, which will fund 10 student-fellows each year and provide unique professional development opportunities. Students entering the second semester of their junior year are eligible to apply.

“Rita and I have a longstanding interest in supporting education. We have a strong belief that higher education should be accessible to all students,” said Dimond. “Our fellowship will enable deserving students interested in hospitality to excel in a rich and captivating learning environment. We are hopeful that this program will support all MSU Denver students in pursuit of excellence and those who strive to make the world of hospitality a better place.”
