The Metropolitan State University of Denver Music Department, in collaboration with the Latino Cultural Arts Center, The Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts, Rocky Ridge Music Center, and The Denver Municipal Band, present a weekend of music activities for all ages. All classes are free, and in some cases instruments will be provided.

Jazz is Fun for Everyone! Little ones (18 mo-5 years and their caregivers) experience a variety of joyful, play-centered musical activities, including singing, dancing, playing instruments, story-telling, and games, led by professional jazz musicians. Help your children develop critical social skills, build confidence, and lay a foundation for a soulful life through jazz!

An introduction to guitar. This class will cover the fundamental technique for a beginning player. A guitar can be provided for those without an instrument of their own.

An introduction to piano for beginners. Participants will work in the Kalamath Bldg. keyboard lab and be instructed on fundamental technique, note recognition, scales and chords.

Join the Latino Drumming Experience and learn techniques to play rhythms like Cumbia, Zapateado, Norteño 2/4, Norteño 3/4, and Salsa. Also an intro to rudiments, stick technique and gaining speed. For those with minimal drum experience.

If you know how to play an instrument and you’d like to experience what it’s like to play in a small (5-9) piece jazz group, this is your chance. This is a very accessible, fun, safe space to play jazz with opportunities to also try simple improvisation, led by professional jazz musicians.

This class is for beginning players. The group will be taught proper practice techniques and instrument care. Topics will include sound production, range, flexibility, articulation and endurance.
