Learning a language online? How does it work?
The Summer Language Series is a fully online program based on the philosophy of engaged learning. Offerings include a special selection of intensive language courses that provide students the opportunity to improve fluency and noticeably increase their level of proficiency.
Intensive courses condense five- and three-credit hour classes in an eight- or ten-week format; they provide an excellent means to complete General Studies requirements, accelerate the completion of a language minor or major, prepare for a study or work abroad experience, or enrich skills for expanded career opportunities.
Summer 2021 Classes
Find the right class for you by searching the schedule with the following prefixes: ASL, JPS, MDL, SPA. For pilot classes, such as Korean, etc., the MDL prefix is used.
Finding Success Online
Being successful in an online language course is supported by engaged learning. What is engaged learning? It is an approach where students are actively and self-reflectively engaged in mastering knowledge and skills, and applying them to real contexts by adapting, evolving and utilizing available technology tools.
"Engaged learning indicates that students have opportunities to engage deeply in their own learning, to practice the transfer or application of knowledge across contexts (whether among courses or between courses and off-campus contexts), to interact with other perspectives and voices, to receive frequent feedback about their performance, and to reflect on both that feedback and their learning.” ~Center for Engaged Learning
