Business Plan Competition

The College of Business at Metropolitan State University of Denver is hosting a business plan competition.

We are using a donation from the Kenneth King Foundation to provide the following grants.  The grants must be used to start or move an existing business to the next stage.

            One $3,500 grant

            One $2,000 grant

            Three $500 grants

The preliminary competition features a written business plan and a 3-minute (or less) pitch video. Then finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas to the judges, real-time via Zoom, on April 30. Follow links for instructions on each component.

Due Dates      

Due dates are as follows:

April 6 Notify us at with a short paragraph that you intend to submit a business plan. Please submit your name, a short description of the concept, phone number, and email address.
April 16 Written business plan and 3-minute pitch video are due via email to
April 23 Finalists will be notified via email. Start preparing your oral pitch!
April 30 Oral pitch to judges via Zoom. (Time and Zoom details sent to finalists in advance, via email.)
May 8 Winners announced
July 9 Each winner submits a preliminary report on how they spent their funds and their progress in growing their business
August 13

Each winner submits a second report on the uses of the funds and their progress in growing their business.

September 30 Each winner submits a final report on the uses of the funds and their progress in growing their business.
November 15 Center faculty submit a report to the King Foundation
