Bio:

Dr. Colleen Colles is a Professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver in the Human Performance and Sport Department and serves as the Program Chair for the Sport Industry Operations (SIO) concentration.  This concentration is designed for students interested in careers pertaining to the business of sport. Colleen teaches Senior Seminar, Organization & Administration, Legal Liabilities, Event Management, and Career and Professional Development courses. In 2013, Dr. Colles led the efforts to transform the SIO curriculum. Significant modifications included the addition of eight new required classes, several innovative elective courses, increased options for minors, and a heightened focus on professional dispositions. In addition to teaching, Colleen serves as the university supervisor for SIO students completing their internships.

Dr. Colles has over 25 years of experience teaching in higher education and has also spent time as a collegiate volleyball coach, athletic administrator, and sport event manager. She has been heavily involved with the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) since its inception, serving on the Board of Commissioners for multiple terms.  Much of her current research and professional development is focused on the quality and accreditation of sport management programs. Colleen is an active member of the North American Society for Sport Management and the Sport & Recreation Law Association. Her recent service to MSU Denver includes co-chairing the College of Professional Studies’ Retention, Tenure, and Promotion Committee, serving on the Enrollment, Retention, and Graduation Committee, the Experiential Learning Task Force, as well as multiple search committees.

Prior to MSU Denver, Dr. Colles spent 12 years at Nichols College in Dudley, MA where she served as a faculty member and Department Chair for the Sport Management program.  During her tenure at Nichols, Colleen taught several courses in the MBA program, chaired the college’s Curriculum Committee and Faculty Senate, and served as the Faculty Athletics Representative.

Bio:

Dr. Troy Morgan has over 15 years of experience in the talent identification and development field. He has been a college baseball coach and recruiting coordinator, college football research assistant, Major League Baseball scout, athlete mental health therapist, and is currently an assistant professor in the Human Performance and Sport department. His research focuses on organizational systems and structures of talent identification and athlete development, non-cognitive aspects of performance, and sport ethics. His work has been featured at national and international conferences in the areas of sport sociology, psychology, law, and leadership. Dr. Morgan has helped develop sport for development programs in African refugee camps and is a member of the Judicial Committee for USA Taekwondo – the U.S. Olympic Committee-designated National Governing Body for the sport in the United States.

Dr. Morgan earned a Bachelors’ degree in psychology from the University of Kansas, a Masters’ degree in counseling and development with an emphasis on adolescent athletes from Kansas State University, and a Ph.D. in physical education, sports, and exercise science with a focus in mental health counseling from the University of New Mexico.

Bio:

Dr. Kelly Evans is an Assistant Professor within the Human Performance and Sport Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver. At MSU Denver, Dr. Evans teaches a variety of courses, including sport promotion/marketing, sport enterprise/finance, and intro to sport management. Evans believes in a student-first teaching philosophy that both encourages and prepares MSU Denver students for the next step in their sport-related careers.

 

Before moving to Denver, Dr. Evans earned her undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in sport management from the University of South Carolina. As a practitioner, Kelly was also an integral member of a summer collegiate baseball team in the Coastal Plain League. She worked her way to become the league’s first female general manager within seven years. Dr. Evans has also worked closely with MiLB, MLB, NFL, and NBA teams in the areas of marketing, operations, sales, event management, and finance. She has also worked closely in planning local festivals, charity events, and concerts.

 

Dr. Evans’ research interests include sport and entertainment marketing, sport sponsorships, and consumer behavior. She has presented research at national and international conferences where she won research grants to continue her work within sport sponsorships. Kelly is also an avid reader of mystery novels, enjoys hiking and camping (as well as a good Netflix binge), and traveling to new places.
