Sexual Assault

Facts:

  • An estimated 84% of rapes are committed by friends, dates, coworkers (aka, people that you ALREADY KNOW.)
  • 1 in 4 college women have experienced some form of sexual violence.

IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED, PLEASE KNOW THAT IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

If you have been sexually assaulted you may want to:

  • Get a medical exam right away (before bathing, douching, or changing your clothes) to check for injuries, STDs or pregnancy.
  • Talk to someone about it.
  • Allow your body to physically and emotionally heal from this trauma.

If you know someone or think you know someone who may have been sexually assaulted:

  • Listen to them.
  • Encourage them to take care of themselves.
  • Reassure them that it was NOT their fault in any way shape or form.
  • Give them with as much support as possible.
