Located in downtown Denver, MSU Denver is a magnet for urban students seeking a high-quality, affordable education.
By partnering with MSU Denver’s Health Institute, health-related businesses and organization can mentor and provide internships to a dynamic and diverse pool of potential employees schooled in whole-person and community-based wellness.
Peer Health Exchange
The Peer Health Exchange Program reached out to Health Institute representatives to set up a Denver partnership. Peer Health Exchange’s mission is to empower young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make healthy decisions. They do this by training college students to teach a skills-based health curriculum in under-resourced high schools across the country.
Health Institute students will provide peer educational information to ninth grade high school students in the Denver Public Schools District. Students will facilitate a discussion regarding sexual and behavioral health and substance abuse issues. Students will provide resources for high school students in order to help them make better, more informed, decisions. Curriculum, support, and training materials are provided by the Peer Health Exchange program.
This program is currently running in three cities and is expanding to Denver. Our first cohort of students starting in January 2019 to serve four local high schools.
