The Office of Graduate Studies serves as a central hub to connect graduate faculty students and staff to the university.  The OGS staff underpins this connection by managing graduate requirements, policies, processes and procedures.  The Office of Graduate Studies staff includes the following:

 

Chief Administrative Officer

The Associate Vice President is the chief administrative officer of the Office of Graduate Studies, taking general responsibility for the development, improvement and administration of all graduate study at the University.  The Associate Vice President chairs the Graduate Council and manages policy implementation, processes and procedures of graduate studies.  This role is also responsible for ensuring satisfaction among students from applicant to alumni status.

Admissions and Recruiting

This area has administrative oversight of the graduate admission systems, manages domestic and international applications and supporting documents for both degree seeking and non-degree applicants.  It also processes admissions information requests from prospective students.  In addition, this area attends professional and academic fairs as well as community events for recruitment and awareness purposes.

Bio:

Nate oversees the graduate admissions operations and recruitment initiatives for MSU Denver’s Office of Graduate Studies. Nate was born in Minnesota but raised in San Diego, California. He attended CU Boulder on a football scholarship and received his BA in Sociology. Nate has lived and traveled across Europe - working in Budapest, Hungary, volunteering with the U.S. Peace Corps in West Africa, and studying Arabic on sabbatical at the University of Jordan in Amman.  His work in higher education has taken him to Iraq, Sudan, India, Qatar, and all over the continental U.S.  Nate has held leadership positions in the CU Boulder Office of Admissions, the CU Boulder College of Engineering & Applied Science, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s satellite campus on the U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the University of Denver’s Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science, and Arapahoe Community College.

Project and Office Management

This area is responsible for the support maintenance and integration of graduate student/program enrollment data.  This area works closely with Marketing Communications and Outreach to develop strategic campaigns to increase the number of underrepresented and socioeconomically disadvantaged students in MSU Denver’s graduate programs and establishes best practices to ensure students persist to completion of their programs.  This area is also responsible for communicating with current students and addressing their questions, comments and/or concerns.

Finance and Administration

This area is tasked with working closely with all cash funded graduate programs to provide assistance in the areas of revenue and expense.  Also provides support to programs in development, newly approved programs and helps to establish timelines and benchmarks to ensure financial stability.  This area also assists with budget functions at the program and university level.

Marketing Communications and Outreach

Our marketing manager is responsible for bolstering the visibility of graduate programs through communications and strategic events.  This area is responsible for managing the OGS website, publications, social media and marketing as well as developing strategic internal communications to the academic departments and programs.  This area also supports the coordination of the Hooding Ceremony and various OGS events.

Student Employees

In addition to data entry and general office work, the OGS student employees are responsible for developing creative content and materials designed to ensure that all communication, marketing and public relations outputs are strategic and mission driven.  In addition, student employees assist with event management, digital design and social media campaigns.  Consequently, they represent an integral part of OGS team.
