Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies, B.A.
The Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies major identifies and critically examines systems of power utilizing intersectional and transnational frameworks that allow for self-reflection and active engagement in social change. It prepares students for professional and graduate education, as well as employment in many different fields, such as victim advocacy, counseling and therapy, women's health, LGBTQ services, public policy, family services, and media.
Students must complete each course in the major with a minimum grade of C- and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in all courses taken for the major.
There are 3 main components of earning your degree in Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies: Your core required courses, your area requirements, and your focus area.
Part I: Core Required Courses (24 credits)
- GWS 1001 - Introduction to Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies
- GWS 1200 - Multicultural Study of Sexualities and Genders
- GWS 2200 - Feminist and Queer Research Methods
- GWS 2100 - Women of Color
- GWS 3170 - Social Justice, Self, and Citizenship: A Service Learning Course
- GWS 3510 - Feminist Theories and Practices (aka Feminist Theories and Practices I)
- GWS 4750 - Feminist Research and Activism (aka Feminist Theories and Practices II)
- GWS 4920 - Gender, Women, and Sexualities Studies Internship OR GWS 4970 - Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Training
Note: GWS 3510 and GWS 4750 must be taken in sequence.
Part II: Area Requirements
AND one course from each of the following focus areas (12 credits):
