The “How To” series is an event series put on by First Generation Initiatives, and other campus collaborators (including GITA, ISP, TRiO, C2Hub, and more). During these events, students will see presenters and panels of campus students and staff instruct on some of the “How To’s” of college.
For many first-generation students, there is terminology that they may not know, or campus resources they did not know existed. The How-To events work to provide resources and knowledge on these unknowns. Some of the events include financial support on paying for college and even applying for SNAP benefits.
The series also works to provide students with help as they transition into being a college student. In other words, attendees will hear from other first-generation students about how they navigate the ins and outs of college life. Workshops include tips and tricks on how to make friends in college, how to avoid burn out, and how to overcome feelings of self-doubt.
