Why is it so important to support First-Generation Students?

Students who can gain a post-secondary education have more significant opportunities for better jobs, higher education, and significant contributions to their communities. At MSU Denver, we recognize the importance of diversity when it comes to the next generation of leaders and highly value our First-Generation students for their contributions to the student body.

Support First-Generation Initiatives

First-Generation college students are hardworking and determined individuals, yet they often navigate the college system alone. According to Resilient Educator, “While nearly 60 percent of students whose parents attended college gradated within five years, less than 45 percent of First-Generation students graduated in the same time frame.” While these numbers can be harrowing to look at, they remind us that we can all do more to support our First-Gen students.
Support from people like you allow our office, First-Generation Initiatives, to provide First-Generation college students the guidance they need to stay in school and find their own path to success. With your help, we aim to empower our First-Generation students and establish a strong community.
No matter how large or small, your donation will make a great contribution to the growing success of the First-Generation community.

Thank You MSU Denver Community

Thank you to all our First-Generation Faculty and Staff who work to make our campus more inclusive for First-Generation students. We would also like to thank our “First-Generation friendly” faculty and staff who may not share the First-Generation identity, but serve as allies/advocates in creating change.
