Become a leader in the banking industry

Banks, credit unions, and the financial services industry need thousands of new employees every year. There’s a high demand—and high salaries—for college graduates who understand how financial institutions handle funds, manage risk, meet client needs, and comply with an ever-evolving set of laws and regulations.

The innovative and unique Bachelor of Science in Banking from MSU Denver prepares students for an interesting and secure career in the financial services industry.

Developed with input from top executives

MSU Denver designed the BS in Banking with substantial input from executives at banks, credit unions, and other financial services companies.

It is the only degree of its kind in Colorado and one of very few in the country. With optional concentrations in compliance and financial analysis, this degree teaches skills that are especially in-demand.

   Applying to the Banking Major

If you are applying to MSU Denver, indicate Banking as your major.

If you are already a student, submit your request to the Department of Finance, via the College of Business Declaration of Major/Minor Form.

Your banking major can be completed almost entirely online, and a fully online version is coming soon. All business core courses and many Banking major courses are offered in an online format—along with several exciting electives. You can also complete your general education courses online—as well as many electives in the College of Business and across campus. Be sure to discuss your options with an advisor.

A solid core, two optional concentrations

All Banking majors take major core classes on topics such as managing banking operations, risk analysis, financial markets and institutions, and personal selling.

Students also choose major electives, including one of two optional concentrations:

  • Compliance covers the culture and practice of compliance, the regulatory environment of banking, and the essentials of information security.
  • Financial Analysis teaches investment strategies, financial modeling, securities analysis, and portfolio management.
