Finance-School of Business | Internship Policy

University Requirements:

  • Must have completed 30 semester hours of college course work.

  • Must have a minimum 2.50 GPA.

  • Must have a declared major.

  • Must complete the credit application form available at the Internship Center.

  • Must obtain approval from academic department granting the credit.

  • No more than 15 credit hours of Internship credit will be applied toward MSU Denver degree requirements.

Department Requirements:

  • Must be at least junior standing.

  • Must have completed at least six credit hours of finance coursework at MSU Denver with a minimum grade of “C” in each course, prior to the pursuit of the internship.

  • Must obtain approval from the full-time faculty member supervising the internship and the department Chair.

  • The internship should be a new and temporary finance work experience that enhances the student’s future employment prospects in the field. Thus, approval will not be granted to students pursuing an internship for credit with their current or future employer unless the nature of the work to be completed is substantially and meaningfully different from what the student is already, or will be, responsible for on a day-to-day basis.

  • Students are strongly encouraged to pursue a paid internship.

  • Students are responsible for finishing all necessary paperwork in time to register for the internship credits no later than the end of February, June 15th, and end of September for spring, summer, and fall semesters, respectively.

  • A three-credit-hour Finance internship requires a minimum of 150 hours of work, which must be completed within one semester. Internships of less than three credit hours will not be allowed.

  • Only one for-credit internship is allowed. However, students may wish to pursue additional internships on a not-for-credit basis.
