Shaun Schafer, Ph.D., is chair and professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Production at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He teaches beginning reporting and ethical and legal issues in journalism.
Schafer has more than 20 years of experience in journalism. He worked as a reporter and editor in Chicago, Illinois; San Francisco, California; Kansas City, Missouri; Fort Smith, Arkansas; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Brisbane, Australia; and Sydney, Australia. Schafer taught journalism at Oklahoma State University before joining MSU Denver as an affiliate faculty member in 2006. He is also the president of the Council of Chairs at MSU Denver.
His research interests include journalism, leadership, First Amendment issues and learning vs. teaching. Schafer is currently working with a colleague in Wyoming on issues related to Title IX, as well as a project regarding collaboration in academic writing and a project for structural engineers with Sanjay Arwade, Ben Schafer and Delbert Schafer.
Schafer received his doctorate in educational leadership, renewal, growth and change from Colorado State University in 2012, a master’s in educational leadership from Oklahoma State University in 2007 and a bachelor’s in journalism/news communication from University of Oklahoma.Edit this page
