Biography:

Tricia Hudson-Matthew, Ph.D., is an associate professor and director, Center for Addiction Studies in the Human Services Counseling Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services with a concentration in high risk youth from MSU Denver, which inspired to seek graduate education. Hudson-Matthew completed a Master’s in community counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy.  Her mental health clinician practice motivated her to assist clients on a more profound level and on a larger scale, which lead her to obtain and doctorate in counseling education and supervision from Argosy University in Denver.

She teaches both upper division and lower division courses in the Department of Human Services including, legal and ethical issues in the helping profession, family system, motivational interviewing conflict resolution and decision-making skills. Hudson-Matthew current private practice clinical work is with children ages five and up as a certified play therapist, substance abuse individuals and couples counseling. Her scholarly interests are in ethics between therapist and clients, mental health and addictions.  Her past presentations and publications work has focused on mental health, ethics, domestic violence, self-esteem, addiction, grief and loss and motivational interviewing techniques.

Hudson-Matthew is working with Human Services Department to develop a master of science in clinical behavioral healthcare, addiction counseling concentration. She committed to assisting students, individuals, couples, and families in their transformation process of learning how to realize their life dreams.
