Windows 10 updates: A major version update of Windows 10 will be made available in Software Center for all Metropolitan State University of Denver Windows computers once testing is complete early this summer. A future Early Bird will announce a specific date once one has been finalized, but staff and faculty members can also keep an eye on system trays for notices about new software.

Windows 11: The latest version of the Windows operating system, Windows 11, was announced last October and is being tested to ensure that it functions in the MSU Denver computing environment. We anticipate making Windows 11 available for MSU Denver computers in summer 2023. Please note that this upgrade will be optional at first, as Windows 10 is not going out of support any time soon.

Internet Explorer retirement: As announced in a previous Early Bird, Microsoft is retiring the Internet Explorer web browser next month. MSU Denver will follow suit and deactivate IE in the MSU Denver computing environment next month as well. The old browser has seen decreasing support and use over the past several years, and Microsoft Edge — Internet Explorer’s updated replacement — should already be on all Windows machines, so the impact of this final shutdown is expected to be minimal. But if a website needed for your work can function only with Internet Explorer compatibility, please contact Information Technology Services.

macOS Monterey: The latest macOS version is intended to be released this summer but is still being configured for the MSU Denver computing environment. A future Early Bird will announce a specific date once one has been finalized.

While ITS manages the upgrades and patching for MSU Denver computers, please take time to review settings in your personal devices and make sure you are keeping your mobile phones, tablets and computers updated as well.
