“I am delighted that Dr. Schafer is willing to take on this additional role so that we do not lose momentum on the initiatives on which we have been working in Academic Affairs,” Mora said. “His vast experience as an academic administrator, including in academic effectiveness and policy, combined with his faculty background, makes him an ideal candidate to serve in the interim capacity at this time.”

Schafer previously served as a chair and professor in the Department of Journalism and Media Production following a 20-year career in news. His areas of expertise include media law, media ethics, freedom of the press, curriculum policies and artificial intelligence in academic settings.

Schafer received a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and News Communication from the University of Oklahoma, a master’s degree in Educational Leadership Studies from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership: Renewal, Growth and Change from Colorado State University.
