Metropolitan State University of Denver is pleased to welcome Camille Torres, J.D., to the campus community. She will serve as interim director of the Office of Equal Opportunity, Title IX director and Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) coordinator. Torres replaces Raul Sanchez, who departed last month.

Since 2009, Torres has owned and served as managing attorney at Torres Law Offices LLC. There, she focuses primarily on employment law, labor law and Title IX and workplace policy compliance, including conducting thorough and impartial Title IX and workplace investigations of allegations of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, conflict of interest, workplace violence, wage/hour violations, bullying/harassment, etc. She has also reviewed client policies and procedures for compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and Title IX regulations, offering revisions and recommendations to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.

Torres also concurrently served in various positions, including associate vice president of Human Resources and Title IX coordinator for the Colorado School of Mines from 2016-20. There, she managed recruitment, staffing, benefits, strategic initiatives, compliance, workers’ compensation and all internal workplace investigations. Additionally, she reviewed, developed and implemented all aspects of Title IX policies and procedures, including managing investigations and confidential resources, developing decision-making and appeal procedures, developing specialized Title IX training and ensuring compliance with all aspects of the Clery Act. She was also responsible for conducting and/or managing all workplace and Title IX investigations.

Prior to establishing Torres Law Offices, she served as corporate counsel for Qwest Service Inc. (now Lumen) and was a staff attorney focusing on labor and employment at Baird Law Firm LLC and Mountain States Employers Council.

Torres earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and Organizational Management and her juris doctorate from the University of Colorado Boulder. A Colorado native, she was raised in Lakewood and has lived in Golden since 1994. She has two sons, one a student at Arizona State University and the other a junior-high student, and a chocolate Lab.

“I am the granddaughter of migrant farmworkers from Mexico, raised by a single mom, and (was a) first-generation student,” Torres said. “I think all that helps me relate to the struggles faced by underrepresented college students and employees.”
