Metropolitan State University of Denver has hired Long Huynh, DBA, as chief enrollment officer. Huynh, who will begin his role Aug. 22, has served in various leadership roles at five universities and brings to MSU Denver an extensive background in managing enrollment. He most recently had served as associate vice president of marketing and strategic growth at Park University in Missouri since October 2019.

Huynh is familiar with collaborating with university presidents, senior leaders, deans and department chairs to achieve a common goal. He has also worked with traditional, nontraditional, international and online learning initiatives to identify and prioritize strategic academic-expansion opportunities.

Huynh began his career in higher education at California State University, Hayward, College of Business & Economics, which also happens to be his alma mater for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration. Subsequently, he was the executive director of graduate services and administration at Academy of Art University and then served as director of graduate and professional education programs and services at Cal State Northridge. He was hired by Kansas State University in 2016 to serve as the associate dean for the K-State Global Campus, prior to joining Park University.

Huynh earned his doctorate in Business Administration from California University of Technology in 2014.

He spoke with the Early Bird about which MSU Denver values most resonate with him, what he is hoping to get from his soon-to-be colleagues and what he does in his free time.

What MSU Denver values resonate with you most deeply?

I am very excited to be joining MSU Denver — a university that has a longstanding tradition of academic excellence and is a leader in social mobility. With that said, diversity, access and equity are the University values that deeply resonate with me. As an immigrant from Vietnam, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to obtain my education and understand firsthand the difficulties and challenges that most students face. As a proud member of an institution that is committed to student success, I am eager to help our students achieve their academic goals and realize their potential.

How can your soon-to-be colleagues help you be successful in this new role? What insights, wisdom, tips, etc., might you want to hear from our employee community?

Being a new member of the Roadrunner family (and new to Colorado), I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning more about the University as well as the community. So really any tips, insights, experiences, stories or words of wisdom from my soon-to-be colleagues will be very helpful.

What passions, hobbies and interests drive you outside of work?

Outside of work, I really enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my dog. When the weather is nice, I like to ride my bicycle or golf. Traveling the world and trying different cuisines are also my passion.
