Access is a broad term, and the process of increasing accessibility in education can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming. As part of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design, the Instructional Accessibility Group offers a variety of trainings and support to help instructors make their courses, assignments, websites and more increasingly accessible to a wider audience.

Access Checks and Course Accessibility Reviews:

Any Metropolitan State University of Denver instructor interested in understanding and improving the accessibility of their course can request Access Checks or Course Accessibility Reviews.

  • Access Checks include a quick look at a specific part of a course, such as a digital document, small external tool, Canvas module content, short video, etc.
  • Course Accessibility Reviews offer a more in-depth evaluation of an entire course and its related materials.

Both services are offered on a firstcome, firstserved basis and are limited by the capacity of the IAG. For more information on Access Checks or Course Accessibility Reviews, visit the Instructional Accessibility Services Page or email the IAG.

Proactive Accessibility Certification

The Proactive Accessibility Certification focuses on skills, tools and knowledge for creating and maintaining accessibility of electronic and information technology in adherence with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

The program consists of six 90-minute sessions. All sessions are offered virtually and can be taken in any order. Enrollment in the certification program is not required to attend a session; those who enroll are presented with a certificate of completion once all six sessions have been attended and you complete a certification assessment. Bear in mind that completing the certification means you can brag about your 6-PAC.

Whether you’re auditing a session or completing the program, the PAC will help all attendees become part of a culture of accessibility.

Visit the PAC Page for more details on the specific trainings and how to register.
