apply now

Applications are now open for the 2023-24 Association of College and University Educators cohort, which comes at no cost to faculty members or departments thanks to contributions from grants and funds. Joining the seventh cohort gives Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty members a chance to explore and implement evidence-based teaching practices throughout the year while building professional community.

The yearlong ACUE course supports faculty members in using effective, research-based teaching practices to improve student achievement and close equity gaps. By the end of this spring, over 100 MSU Denver faculty members in the 2022-23 ACUE cohort will have received a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction endorsed by the American Council of Education.

Time commitment

  • The course starts with a three-hour Course Launch on Sept. 2 from 9 a.m.-noon and runs through the end of the spring semester.
  • The average time commitment to complete the Effective Teaching Practice course is two to three hours per week.
  • At the end of the course, faculty members who complete it are invited to participate in a pinning ceremony during the Center for Teaching, Learning and Design’s annual Celebration of Faculty.

What current cohort participants are saying:

  • “I think it’s great to have a cohort of faculty members from different disciplines and institutions thinking together about best strategies to engage students. I also think it is great to see tips that work not only in class but also online.”
  • “My students are more engaged and successful than they were previously.”
  • “A lot of these practices build on practices that I was already trying to implement, so it’s been helpful to get additional insights and resources to improve the techniques.”
  • “I strongly feel that this program should be required for all faculty members. It makes an enormous difference in how I teach and the experience of the students.”
  • “This is a fantastic course! Keep up the great work.”
