Seeking Roadrunner Shoutout nominations 

The Early Bird needs more faculty and student-employee nominees for the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week series. Please take a moment to share your gratitude and nominate employees who are going above and beyond to uphold the University’s CADRE values. 

To nominate outstanding employees for the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week award, please complete the form on the Roadrunner Shoutout of the Week webpage. Tell us how your nominee is making an impact through great teaching, service to students or innovation. Winners will be selected each week and profiled in the Early Bird on Thursdays. Winners will also get a shoutout on social media.

Metropolitan State University of Denver President Janine Davidson, Ph.D., is one of three finalists for the 9News Leader of the Year award. Show your Roadrunner spirit by casting your vote through April 5.

March 8 Tuesday Talks With Tatum canceled

To help Provost Alfred Tatum, Ph.D., advocate for Roadrunners, all MSU Denver faculty members, staff members and administrators are invited to share what’s on their mind in Talks With Tatum on Tuesdays. The weekly open forum provides employees with the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with Tatum. The informal events will be held virtually, and employees can drop in and out as needed.   

Call for Commencement marshals

Register by March 21 

Faculty and staff members are encouraged to register to volunteer as marshals for the spring Commencement ceremony May 13 at Denver Coliseum. All marshals are required to reserve regalia or wear the regalia of their alma mater. 

To reserve regalia, click here and enter “Metropolitan” in the search bar. “Metropolitan State University of Denver” will appear, and you can follow instructions to complete your order. Regalia are free for all faculty and staff members who order through the link above, and you will be able to pick up items on campus or in the assembly area on Commencement day. 

Submit your Professional Development Conference proposal 

The deadline to submit is March 27; the event will be held May 25.  

MSU Denver invites you to share your expertise with community members at this year’s Professional Development Conference on May 25. Presentation proposals should be relevant to this year’s theme, Empowering a Community of Leaders, including but not limited to personal growth, group dynamics, inclusive leadership and campus engagement. Proposals can be submitted here.

DACA Support | Immigrant Services | Immigration Reform and Advocacy

Guest speaker: Gregor Mieder, director of Immigrant Services Program, Center for Equity and Student Achievement 

This 30-minute program will spotlight the current state of DACA and related Advance Parole regulations and ways to advocate at MSU Denver for and to support immigration reform. It will end with a Q&A and suggestions or further thoughts from the audience.

A Celebration of Inspirational Women

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser will kick off the celebration with opening remarks, and the panel will be moderated by Ryan Peyton, director of the Colorado Attorney Mentoring Program.

Staff Senate meeting

The MSU Denver Staff Senate represents all administrators, classified staff and student employees. The Staff Senate is dedicated to creating an inclusive and solution-focused community to enhance the professional lives of MSU Denver staff members. The Senate ensures collaboration with the University community, advocates for staff opportunities and improves the staff experience through regular engagement at every level of the University. 

World Language Week Fair

March 10, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

AES Building Forum

The World Language Fair is MSU Denver’s main event in the annual celebration of World Language Week. Join in for games, prizes, food, music, photo opportunities and fun. This year’s fair features American Sign Language, Basque, Catalan, French, Galician, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and more.

The event is free and open to the campus community.

Social Work Fentanyl Panel Discussion 

March 17, 6 p.m.

Please join in a collaborative conversation to discuss the rising concern about the powerful opioid fentanyl and overdoses in metro Denver. The potency of fentanyl and the lethality of very small amounts place all individuals who encounter this drug at great risk. With rising overdoses and deaths, we must explore the reality of casual use and addictions in our communities. The purpose of the fentanyl panel is to engage private citizens, casual users, clinicians, advocates, legislators, academics and researchers in responses to address the needs of our communities. 

The event will focus on fentanyl exposure and overdoses in the Denver Metro area with an emphasis on:
• The reality of addiction and casual use
• The ease of fentanyl to be used to lace other drugs and the small amount required for an overdose
• The realities of treatment
• Barriers to access to treatment
• Potential solutions

Undergraduate Research Conference: A Symposium of Scholarly Works and Creative Projects

Deadline for abstract submission: March 18 

Event: April 22 

The annual conference celebrates student scholarly work in all disciplines across campus. If you are mentoring an undergraduate student on a research or creative project, encourage them to present at the conference. Encourage students in your classes to attend the conference and learn about undergraduate research at MSU Denver.   

This year’s keynote address, “Embodied Ethical Social Justice Research,” will be delivered by Sheila Carter-Tod, Ph.D. Carter-Tod is the new executive director of writing and associate professor of English at the University of Denver.
