TRiO High School Upward Bound at Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking proposals from faculty, staff and external community members to develop, design and teach ongoing language arts or math classes to high school students. TRiO services first-generation and at-risk high school students who attend Denver Public Schools high schools within a 10-mile radius of the Auraria Campus.

Instructors will teach one class of the one-hour course they are proposing two days per week. The course should be appropriate for high school-age students. The class size should be roughly 15 students, and course content should be engaging, hands-on, age- and developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive and project-based.

The Salary Supplement/Fee-for-Service is up to $6,000 for a full semester or $200 per class. The deadline for proposal submission is Jan. 6.

MSU Denver highly values approaches to teaching that are creative and interactive and that include culturally responsive content and instruction where applicable. Priority will be given to sessions that enhance critical-thinking skills regarding learning styles that are student-centered.

TRiO is a federally funded college-preparatory program dedicated to the academic success of high school students from underresourced backgrounds. The fall-and-spring program seeks to expose students to college-level instruction that will enhance their problem-solving, critical-thinking and collaborative skills through innovative and creative curriculum design. Students who graduate from the program and attend MSU Denver can receive a scholarship of up to $2,500 per semester.
