Using Open Educational Resources in your courses can inspire innovation and new approaches to facilitating student learning and can reduce costs of course materials for students. Faculty members can also earn up to $1,450 for attending OER trainings and adopting OER this spring.

Faculty members can attend an Open Textbook Review workshop Friday, Jan. 20 from 1-2:30 p.m. Participating faculty members will receive a $200 stipend after attending the workshop via Teams and writing a review of an open textbook in the Open Textbook Library.

Brian Healy, lecturer in Communication Studies, attended this past fall’s OER Faculty Learning Community and said, “I learned more about how faculty in other departments and colleges used OERs, which gave me a better understanding of how I can utilize OERs in my classes. I felt better-connected to MSU Denver by sharing space with faculty members who were asking the same questions that I had, even though our disciplines may have been on differing ends of the academic spectrum.”

Faculty members can explore OER and learn how to use them in their courses with friendly colleagues in the spring OER Faculty Learning Community, which will be held every other Friday from 11-12:30 p.m. on Teams starting Jan. 27.

There is a $500 stipend for attending at least five of the seven sessions.

Faculty members who are using OER as the primary resource for a course for the first time this spring or who are preparing for primary OER use in a course in summer or fall 2023 are encouraged to apply for a $750 OER adoption mini-grant.

Faculty members can contact Ragan with any questions.
