Eleven Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty and staff leaders are graduating from the first LEAD Leadership Program cohort Thursday. The program was developed by the Learning and Development team to encourage employees to refine their leadership skills.

LEAD aims to engage with University leaders who are committed to aligning their leadership styles with Pillar V of MSU Denver’s 2030 Strategic Plan. The sessions provided faculty and staff participants with tools to sharpen management skills to engage those they lead, facilitate change and develop healthy team culture. The program will be offered again beginning Sept. 1.

What participants are saying

Sinley said one of the most beneficial takeaways was setting aside time to focus on leadership.

I think that managers can very easily find themselves consumed with day-to-day tasks and forget to take the time needed to engage in our own professional development,” Sinley said.  “This program encouraged me to take that time, engage with peers who are in leadership positions across the University and connect with available resources that will help me better support those I work with.”

Senga said the workshop benefited her professionally and personally.

“I learned what type of leader I am and what areas I want to improve,” Senga said. “I got to know amazing people, and the support from my fellow classmates and the LEAD instructors (is) amazing. The information I learned in this program will help give me time to check in with myself to take self-care time and actively plan and regularly work on my goals.”

How to get involved

LEAD is one of three new internal professional-development opportunities offered to faculty and staff members. Additional offerings include LAUNCH and GROW.

  • LAUNCH is a three-day program beginning Oct. 12 that is primarily focused on faculty and staff members who are somewhat new to leadership roles.
  • GROW, is a workshop series dedicated to supporting employee levels, including faculty and staff members and student employees. Topics include leading with emotional intelligence, building trust and psychological safety in the workplace, and providing collaborative communication and feedback.
