President’s Fireside Chat with Rep. Leslie Herod

Date: Tuesday

Time: Noon-1 p.m.

Location: The Center for Advanced Visualization and Experiential Analysis in the Jordan Student Success Building and livestream

Register today.

The event will also honor Herod for her leadership and collaboration in the 2021 legislative session, which included helping to secure critical higher-education funding increases. Herod is Colorado-educated and has previously spoken to the impact that a lack of diversity within higher education had on her as a student and a person. As a legislator, she has remained committed to access, opportunity and equitable advancement, especially for students of color and lower socioeconomic status, who have been historically un-/underserved by higher education.

Additionally, Herod was the first LGBTQ-identifying African American person elected to the General Assembly; serves as chair of the Black Caucus and chair of the House Appropriations Committee; and is a member of the Joint Budget Committee, where she has advocated for increased and equitable funding for higher education.

Faculty members are encouraged to attend the event with their classes. Educational topics for students include:

  • How higher education is funded
  • Why state support and the budgeting process matter
  • The value of higher education
  • The specific value proposition of MSU Denver
  • Social mobility
