Advancement Brainstorming meeting with Christine Márquez-Hudson.Faculty members are invited to apply for the new University Advancement Faculty Fellows program by May 5.  

Successful applicants will work closely with University Advancement leaders to further Metropolitan State University of Denver’s mission, strategic plan and capital campaign while developing their leadership and expertise in philanthropy. They also will receive one unit (three credit hours) of release time per semester and a $5,000 stipend ($2,500 per semester).

Advancement Faculty Fellows will gain a comprehensive understanding of multiple areas that will serve their academic careers and MSU Denver, including: 

  • University Advancement 
  • The donor cultivation process 
  • Leadership 
  • Financial management 
  • Investment strategies 

Fellows will also serve as liaisons to academic colleges, schools and departments and will help grow relationships with internal and external partners. 

Fellows will commit 15 hours a week during the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters  to work with leadership in the following areas:    

  • Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving to learn the strategies to engage alumni, including connecting with faculty and departments; assisting with the implementation of several engagement events; learning about annual giving, including the Student Call Center and Day of Giving opportunities; and supporting the implementation of communication strategies, calling donors and solicitations.  
  • Major Gifts and Donor Relations to learn how to identify donor prospects; help prepare donor briefings and participate in donor visits; assist with donor follow-up efforts; participate in solicitations; assist with development of donor agreements; learn how to use Raiser’s Edge; learn the basics of planned giving; and understand and participate in the strategies University Advancement is using to steward gifts, communicate with donors and connect them with their gifts and impact.  
  • Corporate and Foundation Relations to understand the goals and objectives of corporate partners and foundations and how an investment in MSU Denver can further those goals; learn how to write effective proposals for financial support; understand post-award stewardship techniques; and learn how to research corporations and foundations and identify a possible fit with MSU Denver.  
  • University Advancement Leadership and Financial Management/Investment to partner with the vice president on leadership, strategic management and cultural development of teams; participate in meeting design and facilitation; work with  Foundation leaders to understand budget development and management processes and strategies; and learn how the Foundation invests its portfolio.

Qualifications 

Interested faculty members will demonstrate interest in strengthening their leadership, fundraising, donor relations and engagement skills. Strong computer skills and qualitative and quantitative data analysis experience are desired.
