In the first weeks of a new semester, managing the hustle and bustle can easily supersede attention to wellness and reflection. To help Metropolitan State University of Denver faculty and staff — as well as students and community members — reconnect with mind, body and spirit, LearnOn is offering “Taking the Mask Off,” a class based in contemplative movement beginning Sept. 6.
This unique personal-enrichment class helps participants learn to trust themselves, notice vulnerabilities and develop greater self-acceptance through movement. The class also makes time and space for reflection, self-discovery and wellness, and centers on the book “Journey to the Heart” by Melody Beattie.
Participants can also learn to balance caring for self and caring for others by enrolling in LearnOn’s “Prepare to Care” series. Classes begin Sept. 12 and guide students through proactively planning their own care or providing care to others. Meanwhile, “Sleep Better, Perform Better: The Inside Secrets of Sleep” begins Sept. 26 and can help participants learn to quiet the mind and relieve stress to ensure more restful nights.

Those seeking more professional-development opportunities are encouraged to check out “Introduction to Essential Grammar for College and Business.” This class refreshes participants in the mechanics of English with the ultimate goal of improving written and oral communication. Students can dive into phrases, clauses and sentence structure beginning Sept. 6.
For those mulling a professional shake-up, “Reconsidering Your Career” is a great place to explore. The course begins Sept. 25 and looks at the multiple reasons why people change careers and some common obstacles to success.
