Frequently Asked Questions about SCRS

Below are answers to some of the common questions asked about Student Conflict Resolution Services. Be sure to contact us if we can respond to other questions regarding this service! 

While MSU Denver responds to covid-19, the SCRS will be working remotely. Meetings can occur over Microsoft Teams and the phone and we are also reachable over email. Please don't hesitate to reach out!

Any MSU Denver student can contact us or be referred for help addressing conflicts with other students, faculty or staff. 

SCRC works with students in many different scenarios, including:

  • issues with a classmate or group project
  • conflict with a roommate
  • disagreement with a professor or staff member 
  • student employment-related concerns 
  • student organization 
  • student employment training and retreats 

Faculty or staff are welcome to contact us to consult on a student-related issue or to refer a student to us for assistance. SCRS can also help address a conflict situation with faculty and staff as long as a student is involved.

SCRC can help those experiencing conflict in the following ways:

  • Provide an opportunity to say what is important to you and help you to hear the other person’s perspective.
  • Reach agreements and find solutions to conflicts before they escalate.
  • Support the growth of communciation and conflict resolution skills, building on what you already know.
  • (Re)build relationships that have been affected by conflict.
  • Support teams and programs as they solve problems and build community. 
  • Have the ability to share your story.
  • Take part in reparing the harm. 

Student Conflict Resolution Services cannot advocate on behalf of students, we will help you explore options and assist you in addressing conflict or solving a problem through one of the available services. 

If a student is trying to find a specific type of support, then we will refer you to a resource that may also be helpful in addressing your needs. 

Here is a list of limits that Student Conflict Resolution Services cannot do:

  • Give legal advice
  • Provide personal counseling
  • Assign blame or innocence
  • Advocate for students
  • investigate a complaint or concern 

Students can schedule an appointment with the Coordinator for Student Conflict Resolution Services by visiting our office in the Tivoli Student Union, Suite 311 during normal business hours, or by calling 303-605-7018.
