Dear CVA Community,

This spring has challenged us all, both in ways that are completely unexpected and in ways that have become all too common. We are grieving the loss of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery and many more before them. We share in the anger and heartbreak over racism that runs deep and wide in this country.

CVA's mission is to present contemporary art and programming that fosters dialogue around the issues facing our society. With that in mind, we pulled together a meeting with leaders of various arts organizations around Denver to begin to understand our role in building a better and more inclusive future. There is much work to be done, and we are committing ourselves to do it better than we ever have before. We support the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests that serve to highlight the societal issues of police brutality and racial inequality. We encourage you to educate yourselves on why these protests are happening and what your role can be in making our community more equitable.

As part of one of the largest and most diverse universities in Colorado that is passionately devoted to social justice, we at CVA will steadfastly continue our support of under-represented artists and bringing hard topics to the forefront.

Sincerely,

Cecily Cullen, Director & Curator
Katie Taft, Education Manager
Jenna Miles, Communications Manager
