Software & Computers
1. SSD, 512 GB or better is a must for performance and reliability.. (Spinning disks will really slow you down.)
2. At least 16 GB of RAM. Anything less will really slow you down, 32 GB if you can afford it.
3. The processor is irrelevant. They’re all plenty good enough for your CS projects.
4. The graphics processor is irrelevant.
-With these in mind, students will need to choose between Apple and Windows.
I recommend against HP computers. With VirtualBox and other VMs, OS matters much less that it used to.
ITS only officially supports Mac and Windows for the apps, especially GlobalProtect. There have been issues, reported by students who use Linux or any non-Mac/non-Windows OS on their computing devices, regarding connecting their computing devices to MSU Denver’s VPN via GlobalProtect. This could be very troublesome when the instructor uses virtual apps or virtual servers provided by ITS. Having a Windows OS in a VM running on a Linux machine sometime does not work either.
