Current Communication Studies Majors

The Department of Communication Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies. Students who wish to specialize in this degree may elect a concentration in Professional and Organizational Communication or Rhetoric and Public Culture. Students can also Minor in Communication Studies.

Curriculum Changes

Beginning in Fall 2020, the Department of Communication Studies has updated our curriculum to reflect developments in the field and the current makeup of our faculty. These updates include a new prefix that reflects our new department name (COMM instead of CAS), new class numbers, changes to several classes, and new versions of the major or minor.

Current students may elect to change to this “new” major, or stay with the “old” major. Under the old major, students are required to select one of four concentrations: GeneralistOrganizational Communication; Strategic Relationship Maintenance; and Rhetoric, Ethics, & Social Justice.

Most current students who do not intend to graduate in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 will find it to their advantage to switch to the “new” major. All students should work closely with their advisor to ensure that they select the version of the major that works best for them and keeps them on track for graduation.
