Communication Arts and Sciences’ NEXUS Events are the place to hear learn from and interact with pioneering scholars and real-world experts addressing today’s most important questions. Throughout the year, our department sponsors lectures, dialogues, and workshops that will offer you a chance to hear cutting-edge research, develop your own creative ideas, and network with others interested in communication.

Planned NEXUS Events include (schedule details TBA):

  • U.S. Presidential debate viewing and discussion. Share your voice and hear from experts on political communication in this unique election year!
  • A lecture and workshop with a leading thinker on communication in technical professions – from engineering to veterinary medicine. Learn how a degree in communication can make you invaluable in almost any field!
  • Sales presentations secrets from an expert working in the field! Learn the fundamental principles and insider tips for selling almost anything!

Recent NEXUS Events included:

  • Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika speaking on “The Revolution Reality Show” and the importance of story in contemporary social justice movements. Dr. Kumanyika, a radio producer and hip hop artist, also hosted a hands-on workshop on “Finding Your Voice” in audio media.
  • Dr. George Cheney, a leading figure in the study organizational communication, on the cooperative organizations movement and how democracy can help businesses thrive.
  • Dr. Lawrence Frey
