Department Celebrations

Departments around campus will be hosting celebrations for the graduating class of Spring 2021. Below are the departments, dates and times of celebrations occuring this spring.

First Generation Celebration

Dearest First-Gen Students, we are so proud of each of you for reaching this stage of your degree. As you approach the completion of your degree and the graduation festivities, we would like to provide you with what we call the “First-Gen Honors Cords.” We describe these cords as honors cords because it is truly a sign of honor to be first-generation. You not only overcame obstacles before and during school, but you are a role model to all those in your family and community who are looking to you as the trail blazer to a new life. Congratulations!

The deadline to receive your graduation cord was Wednesday, April 7th by 5 pm. We will be mailing the graduation cords to you, due to COVID-19 precautions, and would like you to receive them before commencement ceremonies begin. These cords are free for you to keep!! We only ask that you tag us in any photos you take with your First-Gen Honors Cord so we can celebrate with you. You can tag @msudeverfirstgen.

College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Virtual Graduation Ceremony

Friday, April 30, 2021

Event Details:

  • CLAS Graduation and Awards Ceremony @ 12:00-2:00 PM
  • Reimagining the Road Ahead @ 2:00-4:00 PM
  • Teams Link

This two-part event will be completely virtual. The first part includes the ceremony and awards. For the ceremony, we will be reading every CLAS graduate name and showing a slide with their submitted information. Graduates can submit their information by using this form. Awards are selected by academic departments. The second part, Reimagining the Road Ahead, is a time for students to drop in anytime between 2:00-4:00 PM and ask questions/get support with job search, resume, cover letter, or interview prep by meeting with a Career Advisor. Even at graduation, it’s never too late to reimagine your future.

The links for the ceremony and to reserve a spot with a Career Advisor will be emailed to graduates directly and available on

Please note, this department celebration hosted virtually by the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is held separately from the Paint the Town Red, CLAS Graduate Walk (on May 3) and MSU Denver Virtual Commencement (on May 14). We encourage CLAS graduates to attend all the events that celebrate your accomplishments!
