Roadrunners First

The Roadrunners First Committee/Advocacy Group at MSU Denver was created to bring visibility to the invisible first generation identity for many of our students. Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students, we hope to challenge perceptions about who our Roadrunners First are and what they can accomplish. Through awareness and training framed in a growth mindset, the mission of the Roadrunners First Committee/Advocacy Group is to create a campus environment in which first generation college students feel that they belong and have value. As such, we define a "first generation college student" as any student who has had minimal exposure to or knowledge of higher education experiences, processes, and/or environments and who would benefit from resources developed for and by them.

Tips for Supporting our Roadrunners First

Attend a Roadrunners First training!

Don't make assumptions. Learn from our students stories.

Think first about the strengths our first-generation students bring to MSU Denver.

Avoid MSU Denver jargon (ex. persistence, retention) and acrynyms (FAFSA, SAP, BD hold, etc.).

Share campus resources and take the next step to walk the student over to the resource.

You may have been doing this work for awhile, check if you are skipping steps.
