Dr. Liu identifies as an Asian and straight.

She speaks Chinese, Taiwanese, and English. She took three years of Japanese but can only remember a few phrases now. She would love to refresh her Japanese.

When Hsiu-Ping was in college, she thought everything was known. Research never entered her mind until one of her professors asked her to participate in research her junior year. She loved doing research and decided to pursue and obtain a Ph.D. degree from the University of Colorado. Her favorite research organisms are mollusks because they do not have red blood cells, they move slowly so she can catch them easily, and she can eat them after experiments. Since research changed her life and career path dramatically, Hsiu-Ping is passionate about encouraging undergraduate students to be involved in research.

She is a professor in Biology department at MSU Denver.
