Beginning in 2006, in an effort to support its applied-learning focus, the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events (HTE) at MSU Denver partnered with Sage Hospitality, Mortenson Construction, RNL Design, and JG Johnson Design to create the MSU Denver Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center (HLC), which opened in August 2012. This hands-on training facility includes a 150-room Marriott SpringHill Suites, 5,000 square feet of meeting space, and 28,000 square feet of academic space, along with a 72-seat student-run restaurant, mixology stations, and a high-tech food-demonstration kitchen. MSU Denver’s HLC is a host location for the International Sommelier Guild and the Colorado Chefs Apprentice Program and is the site of the Denver Food and Wine Classic.
