NOVEMBER 17TH, 2017

The Aviation and Aerospace Science Department hosts our first Annual Technical Symposium – the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Rocky Mountain region’s premiere yearly event!

With more than 400 companies setting their sights skyward, AND Colorado boasting the second largest space economy in the country, that’s a lot of opportunity to build real-world connections with MSU Denver’s Aviation and Aerospace (AVS) Department.

And through hosting the recent AIAA Rocky Mountain region's Sixth Annual Technical Symposium came the chance to highlight some of the integral work happening here on campus. As Chair of AVS, Dr. Jeffrey Forrest notes "our programs in flight and space science resonate with and support the professional and intellectual goals of AIAA’s student research efforts." And hosting the fall ATS event was a fantastic success.

Dr. Forrest points out that the ATS event "provides a very robust avenue for our students to participate in applied research activities related to both space and aeronautical flight; and, it offers many venues from which our students can network with leading professionals in industry."

And the success of the event could not have been attained without the help of another MSU Department. The Hotel, Tourism and Events (HTE) Department which stepped up and assisted managing the daunting logistics of food service and event planning. Professor Andrea Peterson said  it "is the first time in the history of the [HTE] department that three major programs – brewing science, restaurant management and event management – came together to plan and produce an event. And, of course, the event students planned everything from start to finish, executing with finesse and getting great accolades from attendees and clients alike.”

Immense thanks go to Professor Peterson's students for the professional and stellar assistance in hosting this event. The AVS Department is looking forward to taking this event to the next level next fall in 2018!
