VISITING ARTISTS, SCHOLARS & DESIGNERS

ERIN PETERS | MARCH 18, 2020

Carnegie Boat, 4000-year-old Egyptian funerary boat

Erin Peters March 18th at 5:00 pm Erin Peters is the Director of the Boyden Gallery and Fine Art Collection at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Before starting at SMCM, Peters spearheaded research on the Carnegie Boat, the museum’s 4000-year-old Egyptian funerary boat and led planning for an updated display in the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. This renovation unites the natural and human histories of ancient Egypt and will highlight Peters’s search for the lost art of ancient polychromy on the boat. Peters’s research of ancient polychromy began during her 2013-2014 Chester Dale Fellowship in the Department of Egyptian Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the “Coloring of the Temple of Dendur” project, which has appeared in Egyptian Archaeology and the Metropolitan Museum Journal.
