It’s not a competition but a demonstration of the holiday spirit.

Members of the Precision and Aerobatics flight teams at Metropolitan State University of Denver partnered with the Colorado Aviation Business Association (CABA) and other volunteers to deliver 8,500 pounds of food and toys to veterans and families in need across the state.

The 11th Annual VFW CABA Charity Airlift took flight from Centennial Airport on Sunday.

The Colorado Veterans of Foreign Wars organizes a food and toy collection, and CABA arranges for the donated items to be transported by volunteer pilots, including MSU Denver Aviation students, to rural areas across the state.

Since 2011, the annual airlift has distributed more than 60,000 pounds of food and toys to communities including Grand Junction, Durango, Montrose, Cortez, Alamosa, Pueblo, Las Animas, Burlington, Greely and Fort Collins.

The mission reflects MSU Denver’s commitment to supporting and educating current and former members of the military. The University has been recognized by Military Times as one of the top 30 colleges and universities nationwide, as part of the magazine’s “Best for Vets” college rankings.
