Accommodation Eligibility Process

To receive accommodations and services, students must first register with the Access Center. We want this to be a simple and quick process. 

  1. Contact our office to arrange an accommodation eligibility appointment with one of our Accessibility Coordinators, 303-615-0200 or  
  2. Bring Disability Documentation to the accommodation eligibility appointment.  In the event that you do not have documentation, contact our office to consult with a Accessibility Coordinator to discuss next steps. 
  3. The accommodation eligibility appointment usually lasts between 60 to 90 minutes.  The meeting involves the student engaging in an interactive process with the Accessibility Coordinator to assess and determine eligibility for accommodations.  

All appointments occur in a private office and disclosed disability information and documentation is treated in a confidential manner.

NOTE: It is recommended that you establish an ongoing relationship with your accessibility coordinator to insure your needs are appropriately met. The students that tend to be more successful in this academic environment are the ones who utilize all the resources available to them.




Academic Accommodations

A reasonable accommodation is any modification or adjustment that will enable a qualified student with a disability to participate in a course, program, facility, activity or service and includes adjustments to assure that a qualified individual with a disability has rights and privileges equal to students without disabilities.  Reasonable accommodations may include academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, services, or modifications for facilities.

The goal is to give the student with a disability equal access to the learning environment. Individualized accommodations are not designed to give the student an advantage over other students, to alter a fundamental aspect of the course, nor to reduce academic rigor.

The Access Center determines reaonable accommodations as mandated under the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, and/or services are determined on a case-by-case basis. The following is a list of potential accommodations which may be granted based on the students' disability and how it impacts them in a postsecondary educational environment.

  • Extended time for taking exams

  • Distraction reduced environment for taking exams

  • Adaptive technology access for taking exams

  • Accessible formatted exams

  • Attendance flexibility
  • Sign Language Interpreter for classes

  • Access to lecture notes

  • Course material converted to accessible format

  • Adaptive equipment
