Braelin Pantel has worked at MSU Denver since 2010. Prior to coming to the University, Braelin worked in several student affairs departments at other Colorado colleges, including in student activities, leadership programming, international student services, disability services, new student orientation and student conduct. Braelin holds a B.S. in psychology from Union College in Schenectady, New York, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on student development and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs Leadership. When she’s not working (or studying herself…), Braelin enjoys vegetarian cooking, backpacking along the Colorado Trail and spending time with her family, including her chocolate lab Ghirardelli (‘Delli’) and cat, Basmati.

Laura Roth began working at MSU Denver in 2005 as an Assistant Director in Student Activities planning events for students. She has been in the Dean of Students Office since 2011 after taking some time away from MSU Denver to serve in the U.S. Peace Corps in Mongolia, sail as the Assistant Dean of Students on the Spring 2010 Voyage of Semester at Sea and teach English to Tibetan monks in Dharamsala, India. Laura received her B.A. in Public Relations from the University of Toledo and her M.A. in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University, both in Ohio. She has worked in a range of functional areas in student affairs including residence life, fraternity and sorority programs, student activities and student conduct. Outside of work Laura loves to travel, practice yoga and learn all she can about nutrition and wellness.

Bio:

Kelli Frank was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and has lived in Colorado since 2012. She is one of six children and the first in her family to graduate from college. Before coming to MSU Denver she attended the University of Washington and earned a B.A. in Sociology and American Studies. She then earned an M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) from Colorado State University and hopes to continue her education as a life-long learner. Kelli has worked in student activities, campus recreation, student housing, case management, new student orientation and college access arenas throughout the past six years. When not working, she enjoys travelling, spending time with her family and the beloved animals in her life.

Lisa has practiced alternative dispute resolution for 20 years as a mediator, facilitator, restorative justice practitioner and trainer. In addition to her work in the dispute resolution field, she has worked in higher education in both administrative and teaching positions. A third generation Colorado native, Lisa holds a B.A in history from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law.

Thomas Ragland started working at MSU Denver in May 2015. Prior to working for MSU Denver, Thomas worked as a Hall Director at the University of Colorado, Boulder for two years and as a Resident Director at the University of Nevada, Reno. Thomas holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and an M.S. in Student Affairs from Missouri State University. Thomas has worked in student conduct, housing and residence life, housing occupancy and as a career counselor for the city of Springfield, Missouri. In his spare time, Thomas enjoys anything fitness related, writing rap music and spending time with his family, including his rotund cat, Jules.

Mike Rager began working at MSU Denver in March 2016 as Title IX Coordinator, Student Conduct Specialist.  He is originally from Colorado where he has spent a vast majority of his life. He attended Colorado State University where he earned a B.A. in Communication Studies/Minor in Business Administration.  Then, he attended Iowa State University where he earned a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy.  Over the past seven years, Mike has worked in Residence Life, Student Conduct, and Greek life. Mike is an active member in the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and enjoys collaborating with colleagues from different institutions. Mike has also attended various trainings including the ASCA Gehring Academy (Mid-Level Track 2013) and ATIXA Investigator Training. When he is away from the office, Mike enjoys traveling, exercise, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and close-friends.

Tony Price serves as Director of Campus Recreation at Auraria (CRA).   A comprehensive fitness, leisure, and recreational services program provided for the students, faculty, staff, alumni, spouses, and guests of the Metropolitan State University of Denver, the University of Colorado at Denver, and the Community College of Denver at the Auraria Campus.  In addition to his primary job duties, Tony Co-Chairs the planning committee for the annual Martin Luther King Peace Breakfast and the Graduation Ceremony for African and African American Students. Additional campus/committee service includes:  MSU Denver’s Advisor’s Council and 21st Century College Readiness Center Advisory Council. Tony is also a mentor for student athletes on the Men’s basketball team for MSU Denver and is a volunteer youth basketball coach for South Suburban Athletics.

Tony has served as a mentor for Denver Kids Inc. and is a current board member for the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance.  

Tony received a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1995) and a Master’s of Arts in Sports Management with an emphasis in Athletic Administration from the University of Iowa (1998).  He is a graduate of Leadership  Denver, 2012.  Tony is an avid skier and cyclist and currently resides in Littleton Colorado.

Bryan is currently Associate Director of Campus Recreation. He started with MSU Denver as an intern and also held the position of Assistant Director of Campus Recreation. Bryan has over 20 years of experience merging hard and soft skills instruction and training in the development of student and staff leadership success models. He continues to pursue a leadership role in the development of media and blended learning modalities for hard and soft skills outcomes. Develops and implements creative new programs in support of workplace and industry diversity outcomes. Bryan holds a Baccalaureate degree from MSU Denver and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Colorado. Bryan's specialties include specialties: outdoor education, Instructional technology, leadership development, higher education service, media production.

Louie Morphew began working at MSU Denver in 2005 in the role as an Assistant Director in Campus Recreation.   He is currently the Associate Director of Programs and Facility Operations at Campus Recreation directly overseeing the personal training program, adaptive fitness, informal sports and CPR classes.   Prior to his arrival at the university, Louie worked at a physical therapy clinic and also at Arapahoe Community College.  Louie has worked as an Exercise Specialist, Personal Trainer and as an Adjunct Instructor leading fitness training for law enforcement cadets.  Louie holds a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation from Indiana University and also has an M.S. in Adult Fitness from Indiana State University.  Outside of work Louie enjoys coaching youth sports for his two children, attending sporting events, exercising, traveling and gardening.

Bio:

Gail Bruce-Sanford, Ph.D. - Executive Director.  Dr. Gail Bruce-Sanford is Director at the Counseling Center, and Licensed Staff Psychologist. She has an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Howard University. Her professional background includes conducting both individual and group psychotherapy with counseling center populations, community mental health, as well as academic teaching at both small and large institutions. Her areas of interest and expertise include diversity programming, group work,ethics, supervision, working with biracial/multiracial students, peer education, women's issues, crisis management, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and helping non-traditional students get back on track. Her psychotherapeutic  work is informed by psychodynamic, systems, and multicultural perspectives. She is a member of the American Psychological Association,Colorado Psychological Association, and the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors. Her hobbies include tennis, scrabble, and classical music.

Dr. Steven Lee has worked at MSU Denver since 2005.  He is the Assistant Director and coordinates crisis intervention services at the Counseling Center. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. Steven has worked in a hospital inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency room, and both outpatient and residential behavioral health and substance abuse treatment facilities.  Prior to working at MSU Denver’s Counseling Center, he worked for two years at UNC’s Counseling Center.  Steven has taught several psychology classes at three academic institutions.  His areas of interest and expertise include cultural and diversity issues, with emphasis working with LGBTQ and American Indian populations, and crisis management.  Additional areas include development of healthy identity and character, and working with individuals struggling with trauma, dual diagnoses (mental health and substance abuse), bipolar spectrum, and autism spectrum problems.  He incorporates a feminist treatment perspective with developmental, systems, and community approaches in therapy.  Steven is certified in Level II EMDR treatment.  Hobbies include running, kayaking, movies and books, and a Sunday New York Times.  He lives with two excellent cats, Jake ba’tinah, and Kowishto.

Steve Haigh, current Director of  Met Media.  Steve has more than 35 years of experience as a newspaper copy editor, page designer and Web editor. He spent 25 years with the Rocky Mountain News through its closing in 2009 and served as an MSU Denver affiliate journalism professor and academic adviser before accepting leadership of Met Media in 2011. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. A native of Kansas City, Mo., Steve bleeds Royals blue, Chiefs red, and Mizzou black and gold. He and Pam have been married since 1984. They have two grown daughters, Kayla and Caroline, and two dogs, Otis and Cooper.

Ronan O’Shea, is the current Met Media Assistant Director.  Ronan O’Shea joined MSU Denver as the Assistant Director of Met Media in January 2016. He holds a B.S. in Sport Communication from Indiana University and a M.S. in Sport Management from Illinois State University. Ronan served as a play-by-play announcer and video reporter for Illinois State University, the University of South Florida and the BIG EAST Digital Network. His reports have been featured on FOX News, FoxSports.com and Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Ronan is a Chicago native and currently resides in Denver.

Steve Monaco began working at MSU Denver in 1990 as the Director of the Health Center at Auraria and is the current Director of the Health Center. Previously he served as the Assistant Administrator for the former Littleton Medical Center, in Littleton, Colorado. In addition to his role at the Health Center, Steve also serves as the University ADA Coordinator and has served in several interim administrative roles during his tenure supervising various departments within Student Engagement and Wellness. Steve’s undergraduate degree is from The College of Wooster, in Wooster, Ohio and his Master’s Degree was in Sports Medicine from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Health Center, which Steve oversees, is a tri-institutional department serving all constituents on the Auraria Campus. Besides providing the campus infrastructure with health and safety resources, the Health Center also administers the Student Health Insurance Program for MSU Denver and administers the Auraria Campus Immunization Policy. During Steve’s employment at MSU Denver he has focused on keeping student fees low for all students by creating self-generated income to offset the need for continual student fee increases. He credits his staff at the Health Center for their consistent work of assisting students in tangible ways to achieve their academic goals. From the state of Ohio originally, Steve is an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, whose entire family shares his enthusiasm for the scarlet and grey.

Jeff “Zack” Uszacki is the Associate Director Operations, Health Center at Auraria.  Zack Has worked at the Health Center since 1994. He has held positions as an athletic trainer, medical assistant, laboratory and medication outlet coordinator, and assistant director. Zack holds a B.S in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training from West Virginia University. Prior to working at MSU Denver he worked as an athletic trainer in the high school, college and professional levels. He also taught science in the Denver Public Schools. Zack has served in a variety of capacities on the Board of the Rocky Mountain College Health Association and as the Regional Representative to the American College Health Association. When not at work , he enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and cycling with his family.

Steve Willich began working at MSU Denver in 2008 as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Students and is now Director of the GLBTSS office.  In the Administrative Assistant role, he assisted the professionals in Student Engagement & Wellness with many duties including Veteran Student Services, the MSU Denver Food Bank, and Student Conduct.  As Director in the GLBTSS office, Steve is involved in many diversity and inclusion committees and events, including the Colorado Leadership for Equity, Advocacy, and Discovering Social Justice Student Summit; the Women’s Leadership Conference; and the Higher Education Diversity Summit. Prior to his work at MSU Denver, he worked in various non-profits including Up With People and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado.  Steve earned his B.S. in Business Administration at Colorado State University, and is currently pursuing his M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education there as well.  He is involved as a regional representative for two different organizations:  NAPSA, which is a general student affairs organization, and the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals.   Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, reading, meditation, and spending time with his dogs:  Cai, Napa, and Sonoma.

Rachel Green, Assistant Director, LGBTQ,  is originally from the Chicago area and after completing her undergraduate degree in English on the east coast, lived in Champaign Urbana, IL for 14 years. There, she obtained her MSW degree from the University of Illinois and served on campus in higher education student affairs counseling and advocacy for 7 years. Rachel is thrilled to join Student Engagement and Wellness as the Assistant Director of LGBTQ Student Resource Center. In that role, Rachel is responsible for education, outreach and programming, staff supervision and training, as well as coordinating the LGBTQ SRC’s resources. Rachel is an animal and nature lover and gets outside any time she can.

Lauren Sullivan began working at MSU Denver in April 2015 as Veteran and Military Student Services Coordinator.  Prior to that, she worked at several other universities in Colorado and Kansas in the areas of recruiting, academic advising, admissions and enrollment management, and military student support, including serving as a VA Certifying Official and processing military tuition assistance.  Lauren holds an A.A. in general studies from Central Texas College, a B.A. in Social Science from the University of Maryland University College, and a M.A. in Management and Leadership from Webster University.  In 2014 she was the recipient of the Mark Guthrie Award for Outstanding Dedication and Support to LEARN Colorado, in recognition of her work on the 2013/2014 executive board of LEARN (Local Education Adult Resource Network). For her service to Military Families during Operation Iraqi Freedom 2, Lauren earned the Army V Corps Heart of Victory Award and Bronze Wahatchee Signal Corps Regimental Awards. As a prior military spouse, and earning all of her degrees as a non-conventional working student and parent, she is especially passionate about serving non-traditional and military affiliated students. When not at work, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family, running, skiing, traveling and volunteering.

Angela LeValley has been at MSU Denver since 2008, first as the Assistant Director from 2008-2012, and then the Director starting in 2013. Prior to coming here Angela worked at San Diego State University and University of Colorado Boulder.  Angela obtained her B.A in Sociology and Speech Communication and her M.A. In Communications.  She was a first generation college student and is a proud alum of University of Northern Colorado.  She can often be heard shouting “Go Bears!” whenever UNC is mentioned.  As someone that rests quite comfortably in her StrengthsFinder Relationship Building Leadership Domain, Angela is most proud of the relationships that she have developed with students; the graduations that have been celebrated, the advising conversation and the learning that has happened with all of these fantastically involved students (both their learning and hers).  Angela believes that happiness can be found in simplest things including a Venti Iced Coffee from Starbucks.

Gretta Mincer has worked at MSU Denver since 2002 as the Assistant, and later, the Associate Director of Student Activities overseeing leadership development, fraternity & sorority life, student government, and community service programs.  In addition to her role as an administrator, Gretta has taught Leadership Studies Courses for 9 years.  Gretta holds a B.S. In Social Science from the University of Wyoming and an Ed.M. From Oregon State University in College Student Services Administration with some love of data and research.  She enjoys spending time with Molly, a 3 year old Bernese Mountain Dog and also enjoys urban and mountain adventures.

Stephanie Abell, Assistant Director, Student Activities, came to MSU Denver and proudly became a Roadrunner in January of 2014. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida and a Master of Education degree in Counselor Education – Student Affairs from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. Before she came to MSU Denver, Stephanie worked in student activities at several other colleges planning various large and small scale events, running a university pageant, advising campus programming boards, coordinating homecoming traditions, and a variety of other amazingly fun campus activities. At MSU Denver, Stephanie works with the Element programming board and coordinates many tri-institutional campus events. In her non-working time, she’s usually found walking her goofy chocolate lab (Sara), running the High Line Canal Trail, or volunteering with the Junior League of Denver.

Dave Bourassa, Assistant Director, Student Activities, has worked at MSU Denver since 2012. Prior to coming to the University, Dave worked in several student affairs offices at other Colorado higher education institutions, including in student activities, leadership programming, housing, new student orientation and student conduct. He has worked in Student Activities and Student Affairs in higher education for over 13 years and absolutely loves his career in working with students in different capacities.  Dave oversees the Student Travel Program and Student Organizations here at MSU Denver.  He has a B.S. in Athletic Training from Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, and a M.A. in Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado. When he's not working, Dave enjoys spending time in the outdoors skiing, camping, and hiking with his family.  Dave lives in Evergreen and really enjoys taking his daughter, Lily, on hiking and ski adventures in the surrounding mountains of his home.  Dave was born and raised on the coast of Maine and really misses the ocean and lobster! Dave is also an avid New England Patriots fan

B.J. Layman has worked at MSU Denver since 2014 in the office of Student Activities, and is currently Assistant Director. Prior to coming to the University, B.J. worked in various student affairs departments, including academic advising, student services, and student activities at the University of Denver and Baylor University.  B.J. holds a B.B.A. in Marketing and a M.S. in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.  Outside of work, B.J. enjoys running, going to movies, and spending time in the mountains.
