Personal Biography Statement
I've taught at MSU Denver for the last 20 years. This has included teaching many courses in the Health Care Management curriculum, serving as the HCM Program Coordinator for most of those years, and being the Chair of the Department of Health Professions for 7 years. Thus, I have lots of teaching, advising and management experience.
I also worked in health care for quite a while. Prior to coming to MSU Denver, I was the Executive Director of the Presbyterian/St. Luke's Community Foundation and did grant-making and fundraising for the P/SL Health Care System. Before that I worked as a health care researcher and health policy analyst for several different organizations. These experiences have proved invaluable to the management, health care organization, and research classes I teach.
I now spend much of my time writing. The second edition of the Introduction to Health Care Management textbook came out in 2012, and a second book, Cases in Health Care Management, was published early in 2013. I am currently working on a third edition of the Introduction textbook that will be published in spring 2016.
My goal is to bring all of my experience and knowledge to the classroom and use it to inform our discussions and help you be successful in my courses. I look forward to interacting with you in the online course and assisting you in your efforts to complete your degree.
My educational background includes a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a master's degree in library and information science from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and a doctorate in public administration, with health policy and program evaluation emphases, from the University of Colorado at Denver.
