Personal Biography Statement

Amy Robertson, LCSW started teaching in the Fall 2012 in the BSW and MSW program. She has taught Family Violence, Direct Practice with Adults, and Generalist Practice. Amy has practiced in community mental health, victim advocacy, hospital, refugee resettlement, university, holistic health clinic, and private practice settings since obtaining her masters in clinical social work from Smith College in 1993. She has served as principal investigator on several large grants in violence and suicide prevention and intervention, including grants from the Department of Justice, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Colorado State Department of Public Health. Amy's practice expertise includes trauma recovery, depression and grief, mindfulness-based interventions, interpersonal violence, and suicide prevention.

Amy is deeply gratified by teaching and mentoring emerging professional social workers. She aims to create an interactive, open and dynamic active learning environment. Students can feel safe and respected yet challenged to examine their assumptions and take risks. Amy is an avid life-long learner and relishes that teaching and the students keep her actively learning as well as applying the latest theoretical and evidence-based underpinnings of clinical practice and program development.
